God On Mission

God is on mission to redeem his people through Jesus Christ. This is a glorious truth found in Bible and is a mantra which the Church should live by today. From Genesis to Revelation we read about God actively involved in reconciling lost and sinful people back to himself through faith. The story of Abraham repeatedly speaks about faith as the means in which one connects with God. The story of Abraham also tells of “a seed” which the nations will be blessed. Therefore, God is on mission not to just redeem Israel, but all people of all nations.

The story of God being actively involved in redemption includes the Israelites who were brought "out of Egypt” and slavery. Despite Israel’s eventual and continual disobedience God remains faithful by calling His people to faith. The story continues as God sends them into a Babylonian captivity. But God proves to be faithful and when his people prove faithless. The God of restoration brings His people back to the promise land refreshed anew. He continues to call his people to faith in Him. The mission of God carries on in the New Testament where God sends his Son to die on a cross for the forgiveness of sin and reconciliation of His people.

Today the Church lives in the tension of the already/not yet of the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God has been established on earth through the incarnation of Christ and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. But God’s eternal and fully reconciled Kingdom will come at Christ’s second coming. In this tension God calls the Church to get on board with His mission. God calls the Church to proclaim and preach the Gospel to the nations. This “call” is not reserved for preachers and pastors but to all Christians. Resistance to God’s mission comes by the means of his people creating their own mission. Church budgets, personal finances, societal materialism, selfishness, and so much more cause Christians to get distracted and lose focus.

The challenge for me and for you is to get on mission with God. Get on mission with His plan. Get on mission and be a part of seeing God redeem His people through Jesus Christ. This is the story of the Bible and the mission of the Church.
